A typical Galway Canals and Waterways walking tour takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the city’s maritime heritage, historic canals and beautiful riverside scenery, beginning at the iconic Spanish Arch and continuing through the Claddagh and along the River Corrib.

Galway’s Canals and waterways are not only rich in history but also offer breathtaking beauty. Along our route, you’ll witness this charming city’s waterways. They were once vital for local businesses in transporting goods. Along the city’s many canals, keep an eye out for those swans gliding gracefully on the water.

You’ll discover a rich heritage and fascinating stories there. We commence at the lively Spanish Parade. This area once served as the old Port. We explore charming waterfront promenades, historic bridges, picturesque rivers and many canals.

These waters and riverbanks hold many adventurous stories of merchants and sailors who once used them for transport purposes.
