Update on local warnings

Following recent tragedies at the Cliffs of Moher cliff-edge Walking trail, new warnings have been issued. These warnings were shared during an RTE Radio interview before a safety audit being undertaken!
FOLLOWING Critical Information ON Visitor Safety has been issued BY CLIFFS OF moher visitor CENTER!
As of August 22nd 2024, there will be trail closures for the foreseeable future. The Southern Section (Liscannor / Hags Head): 5kM from Liscannor is fully closed due to severe safety concerns. Northern Section (Doolin to Surfers Path): There will be no access to the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre from Doolin. The Cliffs of Moher Trail is open only for 1KM north. It is also open for 1KM south of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre.
Stay on designated paths at all times. Do not go beyond walls or barriers.

The Cliffs of Moher in N. West Clare has always been popular with tourists. Starting in 2013, a 14Km long walking path opened. This path stretches along the coastline between Doolin in the north and Hag’s Head in the south.
This costal walk now allows adventurers to explore the entire coastline along the Cliff-edge! However, this is a linear route, so walkers need to think about how to get back to their starting point!
Our WTT excursions cover the Burren area and the Cliffs of Moher but NOT this Coastal walk. We have made some enquiries. There is a shuttle service called the Cliffs Costal Walk Shuttle bus. It runs about 6 times a day in the summer season with various stops along the way. This allows walkers to park their car at one end, take bus to the other end and walk back. During 2023 it cost about €7. The service can be contacted at (087)7755098.
August 2024 Update: We have been requested to add an update to the above post which was posted a few months back. There have been a number of serious accidents on this Cliffs Costal Walk in the recent past. Visitors are requested to adhere to the route, abide by the warning signs. You are asked to please, please do NOT wander off the official path and stay away from the Cliff face !
