2026 Update
Join us on a literary walking tour through Galway. Discover the hidden gems of poetry etched on plaques around the inner city.
As the ‘throbbing heart’ of Ireland’s mid-West, the cultural life of Galway includes native culture, literature, and the Irish language. The city’s Poetry Plaques are pieces of creative writing about Galway cast in bronze or engraved in limestone. They capture the fine words written about their locations around the city.
These themed Tours take place annually in the months of April and July. Tours generally coincides with the Cúirt International Festival of Literature held each April in the city. You can take a self-guided tour of this poetry trail, just pick up a brochure at the Galway Tourist office. Our themed tour, however, offers a more in-depth experience. You learn about the poets and their words. You also discover the inspiration behind these literary landmarks.
If there is enough interest, we also run these literary tours around the Bloomsday period of 16th June. The themed tour takes in Plaques in the inner city area only. Please email us for more information or to inquire about one of these tours.
More information on the Galway Poetry Trail can be found here on Kenny’s bookshop site.
